Personal note:
Doug,
I just want you to know that you and the NYTimes’s Frank Bruni are my favorite weekly general-interest columnists. I so admire your fair-mindedness, your wide-ranging and in-depth knowledge of current events, your moral clarity, and your high intelligence. Oh, and let me not forget to mention your beautiful prose style! Beats me how you manage to produce gem after gem, week after week.
I also am glad that I recently looked up your old sermon on “Forgiveness.” I loved its insights and the accompanying author’s photo. We are so lucky to have you as a guiding light.
Thank you for all of the above.
—John Trimble
Fortunately, nothing of interest will happen before then… (he said as Mar-A-Lago has a bunch of FBI agents there)
I’m guessing that a right-wing counter-revolution takes at least a week to plan.
I hope you enjoy your time off!
Thanks, everybody. I will now go bask in your appreciation.
