The Monday Morning Teaser

I’m back from my “vacation”, where I went back to my home town in Illinois to lead a church service about how to watch the news without going crazy. I’ve put the text on my other blog, where you can read it if you want.

The featured post this week focuses on the Time magazine article about Trump’s second term. Almost as interesting as the conclusions their interviewer draws is his strategy for interviewing Trump at all: Eric Contellessa doesn’t challenge anything in Trump’s wild rambles, but keeps coming back to the questions he asked. It’s a print-media tactic that gets around many of the problems of interviewing Trump on TV.

Anyway, that should be out before too long, certainly by 10 EDT.

The weekly summary covers Trump’s Manhattan trial, which mainly consisted of Stormy Daniels this week. Michael Cohen should start testifying today. Also Israel’s attacks on Rafah, the last refuge of Palestinian civilians, and the Biden administration’s increasing conflicts with Netanyahu. I’ve got more to say about The New York Times. Marjorie Taylor Greene’s attempt to oust Speaker Johnson came to nothing. It sure looks like Steve Bannon is going to jail at long last. And I may have missed the northern lights, but lots of people got good pictures of it.

The summary should post around noon or so.

Fareed said on CNN that nobody wanted to pursue this strawman of indictment of President Trump and nobody would if his name was not Trump.

The only purpose is to embarrass Trump and try to prevent citizens from voting for him.

Today it comes down to a convicted lier Cohen trying to convince he is telling the truth that Trump would have instructed him to break the law how to account for a reimbursement Trump paid to him for being stupid on his own to take his own money to pay an extorting prostitute who Trump never met to keep quiet about something that never happened and that Cohen did in the hope to convince Trump to put him into his administration which was never Trumps intent as Cohen was not smart enough. To Trump $200,000 is like $2,000 to a regular citizen and it’s preposterous to think Trump would have an interest in drop down menus and accounting issues while dealing with world leaders and fixing economy he inherited.

Most of us were sick and tired of listening to Trump you are fired stories but seeing how two tier legal system is used by Biden towards him Trump becomes the underdog we need to fix the system or we all go down to banana republic

If his name wasn’t Trump, he’d have been thrown in jail years ago on the classified-documents charges all by themselves, let alone the other stuff.

Umm, have you been paying any attention to what has actually been happening in court?

This fantasy narrative is directly contradicted by the evidence, and, in particular, the detailed notes taken by Allen Weisselberg. And the only “fixing” he did was hand out massive tax breaks for the uber-wealthy and corporations, resulting in a substantial increase in the nation’s debt, and give away United States interests to authoritarians, and especially his handler in the Kremlin.

I’m wondering if this Tim Scott, MTG, or the crazy-eyes, animal-killing governor of SD posting this lickspittle.

Doug, I’ve never commented before, but feel compelled today. I wish the media (and you as media) would use Stormy Daniel’s real name in posts. The only person reporting publicly that I have seen use her real name is Heather Cox Richardson (whom I really respect) in last night’s blog where she correctly represents her:  “…Stephanie Clifford, the adult film actress also known as Stormy Daniels”. It is something that has really bothered me in all the reporting of this court case.  Otherwise, I love reading your articles!! Sarah Dorer

From Jonathan Alter’s account of the trial:

At the outset, the witness said she preferred to be called Stormy Daniels, not by her real name, Stephanie Clifford.
