The Monday Morning Teaser

I’m continuing to plead illness as I allow myself another week without a featured post. This week a Covid test came back positive, so who knows whether that’s a new development, this is a false positive, or previous tests were false negatives. I don’t have a fever and my energy is good, so I’ll put out a weekly summary.

It was another newsy week: Warnock beat Walker. (Was that really this week? It already seems like a long time ago.) Krysten Sinema declared her independence. Kevin McCarthy kept trying to corral enough votes from the GOP’s fascist wing to become speaker. Germany and Peru broke up right-wing coup plots. Brittney Griner came home, but as a Black lesbian who wants to protest during the national anthem, she’s not American enough for conservatives to be happy she’s free. The Respect for Marriage Act passed. The Trump Organization was convicted of tax fraud. President Zelenskyy (who else?) is Time’s Person of the Year. The Supreme Court heard arguments in two major cases. Elon Musk kept releasing “Twitter Files”, which are supposed to prove something but mostly don’t.

Expect the summary to appear between 10 and 11 EST, at which time I’ll drink another cup of tea with honey and probably go back to bed.

Sorry to read that you’re still unwell. It’s possible you had two infections – ‘flu, perhaps, and Covid – the ‘flu impacting you first (giving rise to inconsistent test results, since perhaps the coronavirus load wasn’t that high) and then Covid taking over as your immune system dipped, even though you’ve been fully vaccinated/boosted – that won’t make you Superman, but it does make you closer to Iron Man :).

Fluorona – it is a ‘thing’ apparently, although I hadn’t read that it was in the US yet.

Get well soon! –Peter (aka PeterinFtL)

Oops. I wrote about ‘flu, whereas in fact you said you had a cold… But the principle still applies – viral infections traveling in tandem, one zapping you initially, opening the door to the other.

It can work in reverse, though – one infection actually preventing another from gaining a toehold.

Either way, the wish for a speedy recovery continues. –Peter

hope you are feeling better soon. My case was mild, and – since I am in the elderly age group – I did get an anti-viral med, not Paxlovid. Look forward to your columns!! Thank you. rest…

Hey, feel better! As a conservative who consistantly votes liberal, I enjoy your articles a lot!

Hope you’re back to your healthy self soon! I’m doing home tests right now after being exposed to Covid last week from a co-worker. So far, I’ve had negative results, but I’m very aware that it could hit me at any time…. Get well soon!

Thanks for all the good wishes, and best of luck to everyone out there either dealing with Covid or wondering whether they have it. I’m doing better every day. I’m still not 100%, but if not for fear of spreading the virus, I’d be more-or-less back to all my usual activities.
