I am resisting the temptation to do a whole week’s worth on the MAGA-is-crazy theme. There’s just so much to work with this week: They’re still pushing the eating-cats-in-Springfield lie, Vance says he’ll keep calling Springfield’s Haitians “illegal” even though he knows they’re not, Mark Robinson is a “black NAZI!”, Trump HATES TAYLOR SWIFT, he’ll blame the Jews if he loses, “he couldn’t help but think” the woman who hosted a townhall for Kamala “isn’t the real Oprah”, and the (non-existent) debate audience “went crazy” when he was fact-checked. Even at that, I feel like I missed something.
But I’m beginning to think people like me are supposed to go down that rabbit hole. For reasons I don’t fully understand, the voters who still haven’t been convinced to vote for Kamala are unmoved by the Trump-is-a-horrible person arguments, so we’re being shown one red cape after another to get us to charge.
So this week’s featured post is called “Squirrel!”, and considers the question of which stories to chase and how long to focus on them. What are the more substantive issues we’re being distracted from, and how should we be talking about them?
That should be out between 10 and 11, followed by the weekly summary noonish, which discusses the government staying open, the exploding pagers, Mark Robinson (in detail this time), the state of the race, the quick passing of the second-assassination-attempt story, the interest-rate cut, Musk backing down to Brazil, and a few other things.

We have seen Biden at sleep at the nuclear football thus all decisions have been made by Kamala and border, inflation, world crisis and crime are all her doing and now she would again if elected
“We have seen”. We didn’t see them on Earth-1, because they didn’t happen here.
Talk about an alternate reality….
The definition of insanity is to keep posting the same addled gibberish and expecting someone to finally treat it seriously.
The only thing Trump has ever been successful at is playing a fictional character in a scripted tv show who happened to have the same name as his. Because this genre of entertainment has the misnomer “Reality TV”, far, far too many people mistake the artificially induced drama they see for actual reality.
Trump’s always been about this artificially induced drama, grabbing headlines whenever and however he can. Take the full-page ad in the NYT calling for the deaths of the Central Park 5, as if, of all people, the person best qualified to pronounce judgment was the all-wise, all-powerful Donald J. Trump.
It’s bread and circuses the mob wants, and so it’s bread and circuses Trump will give them. Substantive issues are for navel-gazers and elites. This election isn’t about policy; it’s about dramatic dominance performances that push the buttons of people who live otherwise pretty boring lives.
Squirrel was used on Bill Maher in the show after the debate. It was describing how Kamala got him to go after the crowd size vs immigration. He seemed not to help himself and went right for it. Squirrel!
One thing to always remember is that The Orange One always has to see his name in the paper ever day, preferably on the front page. If the media quit catering to him, he’d be nothing.
